The porometer measures the distribution of through pores (the narrowest part of a pore that extends completely through a sample) by liquid expulsion. It also has the capability to measure gas permeability.

The Quantachrome 3G zh porometer displaces a wetting fluid from the pore structure of a sample by increasing the gas pressure on one side of the sample. The largest pore is accessed when gas flow is sensed through the sample. The instrument can measure though pores from ~500 microns to as small as 13 nm. As currently configured, the samples can range from membranes to a few millimeters thick.
